Slik :: 2000

Century City, Tate Modern

Slik was a digital print made for the Century City Exhibition. Independent Curator Peter Lewis invited many artists to make something for this wall as seen in the installation shots above. As part of this exhibition, the wall acted as a parasitical project positioned on the back of one of the white walls in the Turbine Hall.

The piece was assembled from hundreds of textural layers placed within a photo of oil spilled on the sidewalk, pointing to the new century as having to deal with the post-apocalyptic ecological situation we find ourselves in. The top layer was a tag which coincidentally had been sprayed onto the van we used to transport equipment to various shows and exhibitions. We took the tag as a gift.
